Lance McCormack's LUST: Living Under Severe Torment is truly a book needed by the masses. A counselor for many years writes from the experience of visiting with thousands of patients/clients. Unlike most books of the genre, LUST is written from the detailed perspective of the counselees themselves. LUST is subtitled "the guide to beating addiction," and accurately so, for he gives many examples of real people being delivered from real addictions! Obviously academically qualified for his field, McCormack blends his years of study with years of practicality, and thereby producing person after person literally set free from various addictions. He provides for the reader the pros and cons of established counseling methods, but then gives his perspective of what works and what doesn't work, and the whys behind both. Regardless of what a person finds himself/herself addicted to, or even the cause that eventuated into the addiction, the author puts the responsibility on the addict, not the circumstances of the addiction. Without disregarding the importance of counseling, McCormack puts the onus clearly on the addict. LUST is straight forward, in your face, and pulls no punches! Lust Living Under Severe Torment The Guide to Beating Addiction Lance McCormack 9780692826775 Books Reviews
A wonderful, common sense book. A big help for caregivers and anyone who is addicted to alcohol,
drugs, food .. you name it!
It's sad but hard reality.
A very interesting, enlightened view on what addiction of many types does to addicts and their loved ones and society in general. Plus advice on how to strive for recovery. A lot of wisdom from a counselor with years of experience dealing with addicted patients. I intend to buy additional copies for friends and professionals.
An excellent book to read especially if you are dealing with addiction. Very helpful in understanding the different ways the addicted person feels. The last chapters about what is needed to beat addiction was "right on" but I had never heard it stated that way.
Finally, an honest look at addictions. McCormach cuts to the chase - there is no ambiguity here and I, for one, find this refreshing ! " Lust" masterfully weaves tidbits of heartfelt humor through the horrifying fabric of lives of addictions. There is a wealth of insight and information between the covers for anyone ready and willing to listen and learn. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who's life has been touched by addictions (and really, who's hasn't ?). Had Enough? Read the book.
